Tata Motors to launch Nano on 26th January 2009
After a lot of problems during the manufacturing of the Tata Nano including the shift of the Manufacturing plant, Tata Nano is now all set to reach the homes of the People as Tata Plans to launch the People’s Car Nano on 26th January 2009 on the Republic Day of India.

After a tumultuous journey, the most-awaited people’s car may finally roll out on January 26. Tata dealers and auto experts say Republic Day would be a preferred day to bring out the car to the people.
Sources placed at top Tata dealers and on-field executives said, “Yes, we have inputs that clearly indicate that the Nano will roll out on January 26. We are preparing for that.
“People are still optimistic about the Nano roll out. In fact, we have an unending customer list. We had registered over a lakh customers interested in the the Nano. Whenever the Nano bookings start, these customers will get top priority,” he added.
“The Tatas will roll out the Nano in the first quarter of 2009 at any cost but I am not sure about the actual date. January 26 could be the best day for the roll out as it has the national significance,” Adil Jal Darukhanwala, editor-in-chief, Times Zigwheel, said.
According to the dealers, Tata Motors has called a meeting of all its dealers in Mumbai on January 5. But when contacted all that Debashish Ray, corporate communication head at the Tata Motors could divulge was that Nano would arrive in the market in the shortest possible time.
V S Gokhale, director of Pandit Automotive Pvt Ltd also refused to comment of the roll out date. Other official sources from the company said, “We are attending the meeting scheduled on Monday in Mumbai. We hope it might be related to the Nano’s entry in the market.”
Internal sources in the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) said, “Nano had cleared the ARAI tests in October. It includes brake tests, grade ability test and other related tests. The Tata Motors itself has a good testing facility, better than the ARAI at Engineering Research Centre in the Pimpri factory premises. As we are authorised by government to approve vehicles, Tata needs our stamp of approval.”
However, according to a highly placed Tata source January 26 is too, early a date for the Nano release, but the car will definitely hit markets before March. Banks too, are keeping a close watch and waiting for Nano’s arrival.
Mukund Deshpande, a bank official, said, “We have kept all our options open. We will review the market conditions. We are always ready to finance a consumer-oriented product like the Nano. In fact, in our opinion, the Nano may accelerate the market. Many people will buy the car and banks will come out with many attractive schemes. It will also help raise the sliding auto sale in the country.”
Recently company officials were quoted saying, “We are bringing the Nano into the market as fast as possible from one of our existing plants.
