TVS Motor recently launched India’s first auto-clutch bike ‘Jive’ and automatic scooter ‘Wego’. With this launch Chennai based automobile manufacturer TVS Motor (TVS-M) is targeting a bigger share in the two-wheeler market.

TVS Motor is confident that it will be able to sell 20,000 to 25,000 T-Matic-technology-fitted Jive bikes, a technology for which the company has applied for patent.

The 110-cc Jive is priced at Rs 41,000 and Wego at Rs 42,500, he said, adding both these products have been designed keeping the focus on “stress-free” riding experience. TVS-M has taken all aspects like ergonomics, riding experience and handling in its product design.

On Jive, it has spent Rs 25 crore while Rs 50 crore to develop Wego. The former promises a mileage of around 60 km while the latter is around 50 km. Average experience of gear changes have come down by 70 per cent and there is no fear of bike stalling, he said seeking to point out that the average traffic speeds across the country has been coming down to 15 km per hour.

On the multi-use 110-cc Wego, he said that the company would commence mass production in the second half of January. Production of Jive too had begun at its Hosur plant though the market launch would happen next month, he added. TVS-M has imported the gearbox from Indonesia and the engine is from India. “It is marrying of technologies,” Mr Srinivasan said.

These two new introductions would bring in an additional volume of 35,000 to 40,000 bikes every month. Month after month, the growth has been good, he said.
